The name of this traditional handmade paper literally translates as 'Japanese paper' and  has it's origins in the East Asian island country going back over 1300 years. What is striking about washi paper is it's exceptional strength, durability and flexibility despite it being much thinner than most Western papers, along with its ability to last for centuries without yellowing or degrading, a quality attributed to its long,  interlocking fibres.

These unique qualities make this an invaluable paper to museums and galleries globally to repair valuable paintings alongside its predominant use creating traditional Japanese art, screens, parasols and lamp manufacture. 

It may be useful to know that the Japanese giant Canon's range of 12-colour large-format printers in the PRO series come with a preloaded media profile type, named "Japanese Paper Washi". So users of these printers will be able to select this option when printing beautiful artwork on washi paper.
